 Dearest Mother and Dad,

Well, at last it came thru.  Yes sir – I am a full-fledged Captain.  It was effective on November 12, ’44.  What do you think of that?  Are you glad?  I am so excited about it I hardly know what to do.  We had a big celebration last night.  Frost also got his the same time.

Mom, Jack Mullins has been evacuated from here because of the trouble he has with his fanny.  He talked to a Doctor over here who made him leave.  He told Jack to go back to the States an have an operation.  I don’t know when he will get there because I am sure he will stop for awhile in New Guinea.  But, anyway, he has at last started doing something about it.  Tell Margie not to worry for he is plenty O.K.

By the way, if I haven’t told you, I am in for the D.F.C. for sinking a Nip Destroyer.  Please don’t put it in the paper for the Army will take care of that.  Just thought you’d like to know.

Bye for now and be sweet.

                                                                                                 All my love,

                                                                                                 Son
